Hi, I’m Tom, the “son” in Ambroson Apiaries. Ambrose was my dad. When I was young, our family spent our Springs making maple syrup while my dad helped out a local beekeeper friend on the side during the summer. As I recall, he didn’t in any way appreciate getting stung.

Growing up in Northern Minnesota, my wife and I both had plenty experience with a variety of stinging insects but I never had any interest in working with them, much less feeling any sense of affinity for them. That changed 15 years ago while helping a friend capture a swarm in our yard and being enthralled with the process. I impulsively bought 2 hives from a local beekeeper the following week.

Despite some early mis-steps, a passion for bees grew as our 2 hives expanded to 5 and eventually 20. Each step of the way (not always forward), taught lessons not just about the bees, but about purpose, patience and resilience.
We now keep about 100 hives in the Southern Willamette Valley producing pure raw Oregon honey, creamed honey, cut comb honey, bee pollen, and pure beeswax candles.

Along with placing bees in locations that afford them a diverse diet of forage for pollen and nectar, we place our bees away from conventional agriculture and the synthetic pesticides, sprays, herbicides etc that can accompany that.

-
We make our own queens grafting from queens that have gone through at least 2 winters

-
When we treat for mites, we use Organic Acids and essential oils. No synthetic miticides or antibiotics are ever put into our hives.

-
We're careful about where we place our hives and while we can't control where our bees go when they're out foraging, we can control what we as beekeepers put into our hives.
-
We're proud of our honey and the work we do and hope that you enjoy it as much as we do.
